MyNextMotor.Net (http://www.mynextmotor.net), the Seattle-based (US) auto broker that introduced its CarFinder™ service recently, has said that despite the national and international economic downturn, "business could not be better" for automotive brokers, MyNextMotor included.
A Search for Vehicle Bargains
This is due in part to the recent change in public opinion towards cost-saving and budgeting measures. Americans nowadays are flocking to any kind of bargain they can find: garage sales, consignment shops, thrift stores, as well as cutting coupons, searching for bargains, and researching Internet sites for information about how to get the best deal on products.
MyNextMotor CEO and founder Chris Aldridge contrasts this with the boom times at the turn of the 21st century, 2000-2004, when it seemed that the stock market rise was unstoppable, house prices were skyrocketing to no end, and the economy seemed to have no limit.
"If anything," Aldridge says, "business is almost better for this segment of the automotive industry, because we are all about trying to find the best bargain for consumers."
Eroding Confidence in Franchise Dealerships
It was no more than a few years ago that car buyers were amply willing to step onto franchise car dealers lots and pay asking price for new vehicles. Now, times have changed, and not only are consumers are looking for better quality pre-owned cars, but they are anxious for better prices on those pre-owned cars.
Auto brokering has existed for many years, but not until recently has it become a more formalized type of business, due in large part to motivated businesses such as MyNextMotor.Net (http://www.mynextmotor.net). With its CarFinder™ service, MyNextMotor combines Internet technology with good old-fashioned human intuition to find car buyers exactly the kind of car they want, at a price that makes them feel comfortable.
Basically, the way auto brokering works is this: companies and individuals, such as Aldridge of MyNextMotor, work between established vehicle outlets and the consumer. Aldridge and his team of CarFinders™ literally beat the bushes to find lease trade-in’s, rental returns, repossessions, auctions, and other types of outlets that are unknown and unavailable to the ordinary consumer.
Flat Fee Makes Economic Sense for Getting Cheaper Cars
When the consumer gets exactly the car that he or she desires, the buyer pays my MyNextMotor a flat fee for their services.
"Our name for it is the No-Hassle Flat Fee, says Aldridge, "and it's completely transparent. It is unlike all of those hidden fees and charges that you will find a dealership. At MyNextMotor, all the consumer has to do is pay a low, reasonable flat fee for us to do the hard work for them. Not only that, but we’re able to find vehicles at deeply reduced prices."
Generally, the flat fees are offset by the generous savings found through CarFinder™. In one recent example, MyNextMotor found a $25,000 Mercedes for a client, and brought the selling price down to $18,500. The CarFinder flat fee of $1500 fee was instantly offset by the $6,500 savings.
"In these tough times, it's all about being creative about how you save money," concludes Aldridge. "I like to think that CarFinder™ is one of the more creative methods available to the ordinary car buyer to get a great deal on a quality car."
The world of used car buying is undergoing a dramatic change. Two major events are contributing to this change.
First, technological advances such as wide-spread adoption of the Internet as a buying tool allow consumers to search for and purchase vehicles online. This allows the car buyer to avoid the unnecessary expense and emotional turmoil of visiting franchise car dealerships.
The second dramatic event, surprisingly, is the current economic uncertainty and credit crunch that began unfolding in early 2008. As credit has become harder and harder to obtain, consumers have been looking for ways to either purchase vehicles with cash or to minimize their credit purchases.
But what does this mean for the ordinary guy who's holding down a job and needs a new car?
It means that forward-thinking companies such as my MyNextMotor.Net (http://www.mynextmotor.net) are developing processes that can make the ordinary guy’s next vehicle purchase less expensive and which will align him closer to the type of car that he really wants. But the best way to look at this is contrast it with the old, broken model for car buying.
Not "Your Dad’s Way of Buying a Car"?
No more than four or five years ago, the typical car buying experience with began with a search through the Sunday morning newspaper, followed by an all day safari from car lot to car lot. At each car lot, highly trained salesman educated in the art of separating car buyers from their money, quickly attacked the car buyer and his family. If the car buyer was lucky to escape from that first car lot, he got the chance to repeat it several more times before the end of the day.
And if the car buyer cared anything about the state of his bank account, he would repeat this process on the average of four to five more weekends for the next two month—all in the interests of getting a good deal.
The Fallacy of the "Test Drive"
The core of this car-buying process is what is called the test drive. The test drive is an obligatory motion in which, usually accompanied by a salesman, the buyer takes the car out for a brief spin around the block. After this six-minute drive, the car buyer supposedly feels armed with enough knowledge to decide about purchasing the car.
What MyNextMotor is saying is: that old purchasing model broken.
Test drives do nothing to help a buyer investigate the true state of a car. In fact, vehicle test drives divert a car buyer's attention away from the true matters at hand, which are under the hood and other mechanical issues.
"A test drive on a car," says Aldridge, "is as much an indicator of quality as a homebuyer’s ten-minute house walkthrough—practically worthless. How many homebuyers purchase a home based on a walkthrough? Almost no one. Yet millions of consumers buy vehicles after a quick test drive. It doesn’t make sense."
Vehicle Assurance Program – Better Than a Test Drive
What does make sense is MyNextMotor’s optional vehicle assurance service, which provides a high level of comfort and security for the car buyer. Almost at a moment’s notice, MyNextMotor can order up a battery of tests and checks on the car that cannot be performed when purchasing a car at a franchise dealership.
The reason for this is that the checks and balances which can be ordered through MyNextMotor are all conducted by third-party independent sources.
With Vehicle Assurance Program, the following features available at your option:
- 1. Inspection by a Licensed Third-Party Mechanic.
- AutoChek and/or CarFax Title History Report.
- Original Factory Warranty on Many Vehicles.
- Experienced Professional Car Buyers.
- Available Vehicle Service Contracts (affordable and reliable, featuring ASC, Diamond Warranty, and others); and
- Available certification from Manheim, a leader in automotive auction and inspection services.
A New Era in Car Buying?
Naturally, CEO Aldridge hopes that new car buyers will come on board and see the wisdom in adopting this new vehicle-purchasing model…but he is realistic, too.
"New technologies always take time for consumers to feel comfortable with, no matter how good the technology might happen to be. It’s all about hitting that ‘sweet spot’ with car-buyers."
He adds, "After all, it took consumers awhile to figure out that buying books through Amazon was a win-win deal. But once they saw how great it was, the idea caught on like wildfire. We’re predicting the same thing with MyNextMotor’s vehicle purchasing model."
